2026 Chrysler Pacifica

The Next Chapter For Chrysler’s Minivan Leader

Chrysler is preparing a major shift in how its flagship minivan will be powered. The refreshed Chrysler Pacifica arrives in 2026 with a new direction that leans heavily toward electrified technology, but not in the same plug-in form shoppers have known for years. As MotorTrend reports, Stellantis is moving away from plug-in hybrids across North America in favor of extended range electric platforms that use a gas engine only as a generator. That strategy raises big questions about how the Pacifica evolves and what buyers can expect when it lands at 5 Corners DCJR.

Plug-in Pacifica On Its Way Out

MotorTrend confirmed with Tim Kuniskis of Stellantis that the current Pacifica Plug-in Hybrid is nearing the end of its run. The familiar Pentastar 3.6 liter V6 will finish out the 2026 model year before being phased out. It currently provides 32 miles of electric only travel, powered by two electric motors and an electronically variable transmission that drives the front wheels. Shoppers who want the outgoing system will need to move quickly, since Kuniskis made it clear the refreshed version will not continue with the same setup.

This change is driven by Stellantis’ larger shift away from plug-in hybrids. The company is prioritizing extended range EVs similar to what will debut in the Ram 1500 REV and the Jeep Grand Wagoneer later this year. These systems use a gas engine only as a generator to power the battery and electric drivetrain instead of directly driving the wheels.

What Powers The 2026 Pacifica

This is the big question and Stellantis is keeping it close to the chest. Kuniskis declined to confirm whether the refreshed Pacifica will use any form of electrification beyond the standard gas V6 still available today. The company promises that details are coming soon and MotorTrend notes that Stellantis believes customers will like what is on the way.

One possibility is mild hybrid technology as a replacement for the long running V6. It would lower emissions and improve efficiency while keeping pricing within reach for families. Another possibility is adapting extended range EV tech for a front drive unibody platform even though the current system is built for rear drive trucks and SUVs. Kuniskis acknowledged the challenge but pointed to the Chinese market where EREVs appear in a wide range of vehicle sizes.

For families visiting 5 Corners Dodge Chrysler Jeep RAM, the key takeaway is that electrification is still part of the long term plan even if the specific configuration has not been announced.

The Next Generation Minivan

While the refreshed Pacifica is the near term focus, the next generation Pacifica is already in development and will include electrification of some kind. A full battery EV no longer appears likely. Instead, a hybrid or extended range system seems to be the most realistic outcome. Offering both would create strong flexibility for price sensitive shoppers and buyers looking for maximum efficiency on long trips.

The long delayed two row Chrysler crossover, internally known as CX6, is also still planned. It was once expected to be fully electric but now appears headed toward a hybrid setup. It is not expected before 2027.

What This Means For Chrysler’s Future

Stellantis leadership has hinted at a strategic reshaping of its many global brands. The company plans to announce its broader direction later this year, which will likely include updates on the Pacifica’s role and the long pending crossover project. With the Pacifica remaining the only current Chrysler model, its move into a new electrified era is crucial for the brand’s stability.
